That is a legal position, not an admission of guesswork. The matching rules are implemented from HMRC's published guidance and the Taxation of Chargeable Gains Act 1992; the rates and allowances for every supported tax year come from one dated source rather than being typed in page by page; the calculation engine is open source with full test coverage enforced at build time; and the output shows how each disposal was matched so you can check any line by hand. How the figures are produced and checked sets out what is verified, and what is not.

Known Limitations

This calculator does not support: loss carry-forward from previous years, Business Asset Disposal Relief (BADR), Indexation Allowance (pre-April 2008), Taper Relief, residential property, change of status, or transactions before the 2008/09 tax year. For a full list, see the FAQ.

Exchange Rates

Exchange rates are sourced from HMRC monthly averages, not daily spot rates. Minor differences from your broker's rates are expected.
